Rhodes Island is the second largest of the Greek islands and has long been a very popular summer sun holiday destination with Northern Europeans so there are lots of flights from many regional airports. Rhodes Town in the north of the island is a mixture of historical buildings, cobbled small streets lined with shops, cafes and restaurants, as well as having buzzing nightlife if you want it. Leading southwards from Rhodes Town is a long stretch of hotel lined beaches.

Reliable cross-shore winds, warm seas, a lovely energetic vibe on the beach and some great tuition make for awesome kiting days in Kremasti in the North of the Island (near Rhodes town). Generally, the wind will be lighter in the morning, typically starting at around 14-16 knots, before the thermal effect takes hold and turbocharges the breeze up to an optimum 20-22 knots, virtually every day throughout the summer. Launching is easy due to the protected location and there is no significant swell breaking on the beach. For beginners, lessons take place a few hundred metres upwind of the main centre where sand spit curves out into the sea. This provides a safe, shallow learning environment in which to make your first body drags and board starts. Advanced riders will delight in the constant winds and the little bumps begging to be used as launch ramps. With so much space available in Kremasti you can log a huge amount of airtime and it is an ideal place to work up the confidence whatever your level.

Rhodes Island is well known for its Meltemi wind, but specifically, at the windsurf bay of Ialysos there is a thermal wind which is generated from the venture effect between islands, Turkey and the hills of Mont Smith. During the summer months, from May to September the wind picks up almost every afternoon to a nice 20 knots! The wind blows across onshore at the windsurf spot. There is a great sandy beach entry and a great flat water section, especially good for beginners in the mornings. By the time of the wind kicks in some small waves start to swell, creating text-book bump and jump weather.

The main areas for Wing Foiling are Ialyssos and Ixia Beach. From May to October, these places have consistent wind, especially as the town of Rhodes heats up in summer, which drives the wind to these areas. Even when wind forecasts are low, the wind speeds up significantly due to this effect. Planet Wingfoil collaborates with the top two Wing Foiling centers in Northern Rhodes, located at Ialyssos and Ixia. The wind in this area is stable and blows cross to cross on-shore. There might be some small waves, which could be a bit challenging for absolute beginners in Wing Foiling initially (it's best to start in very calm waters if possible). However, once you're up and riding on your foil, this becomes an excellent destination for Wing Foiling. You can expect reliable wind, quality equipment (available if you don't have your own), good hotels near both spots, and amenities for non-Wing Foiling partners or families.

Semi-Private lessons are a maximum of 2 students per instructor, meaning fast progression. The lessons include all equipment and are designed to take you from total beginner to up and riding. The Learn To Kitesurf course aims to get you riding, while also teaching you how to read the conditions and utilise your equipment safely and correctly.&nbsp;<div> </div><div>You will start with the basics; this includes setup of your equipment, safety features that you will utilise and how to fly a small 2metre trainer kite. When your instructor feels you are ready you can then head to the water. On day one you will only be using the kite and not go on the board just yet. Entering the water is when the fun starts! Here you will be taught how to properly fly an inflatable kitesurfing kite, how to control your kite and what to do if you crash it in the water. On day one you will be comfortable flying the kite and know what to do in any situation. You will then move on to the board lessons. What does that mean? Well it is time to get up on the board now. You will practice using the kite to generate pull and you will learn how to get the kite to pull you without the board first. The idea is to get used to how the kite behaves when asked to pull you. Once confident doing this you will learn how to put the board on your feet and after that, how to get up on the board. Most people will manage to do a few metres on the board by the end of the course.<div></div></div>
