Kitesurfing Holidays in Tarifa, Spain

In spring and summer, the main wind in Tarifa comes from the east, called the Levante. It blows onto the shore from the left side when facing the ocean. In autumn and winter, the wind shifts to the west, known as the Poniente, blowing from the right side. This wind increases wave height and power. During summer, waves are small with some choppy areas, while in fall and winter, thanks to the Poniente, there are good waves.

Tarifa is a popular spot for kitesurfing with many locations. It gets very busy in June, July, and August, so it's better to visit in April, May, September, or October to avoid crowds. Learning to kitesurf here is challenging but possible. Beginner courses depend on wind conditions and are not always available.

For experienced kiters, Tarifa is excellent. The main kitesurf school is at Valdevaqueros, around 10 minutes from the old town. It's a windy spot with a beautiful sandy beach, surrounded by lush vegetation. Kitesurfing, windsurfing, and wingfoiling are taught here safely due to the bay's shape. There's a rescue boat available for emergencies, free of charge.

About 60 km from Tarifa, Los Caños de Meca is great for surfing waves in spring and summer. The kitesurf school can arrange transfers there when conditions are right, and they can bring rented equipment. The closest spot to the village is better for windsurfing, while kitesurfers prefer sailing towards the Trafalgar lighthouse on the beach.

Windsurfing Holidays in Tarifa, Spain

In spring and summer, the main wind in Tarifa is called the Levante. It blows from the east and comes onshore or slightly from the side. In autumn and winter, another wind called the Poniente becomes more common. This wind comes from the west, blowing onshore or slightly from the side, increasing wave height and power. During summer, expect small waves and calm water, while in fall and winter, thanks to the Poniente wind, there are better waves for surfing.

Valdevaqueros is the windiest spot in the area, close to a huge sand dune and surrounded by lush vegetation. It's safe for kitesurfing, windsurfing, and wingfoiling because of the bay's shape. Even on windy days, it's safe due to the nearby sand dune. A rescue boat is available for everyone, free of charge, in case of emergencies. In winter, there may be a shorebreak when the Poniente wind blows.

Wingfoiling Holidays in Tarifa, Spain

In Tarifa, there are two main winds: the Levante and the Poniente. In spring and summer, the Levante blows from the east, making it an onshore/side-offshore wind. It comes from the left when you look at the ocean. During autumn and winter, the Poniente wind picks up more, coming from the west. This wind is side-onshore, blowing from the right, and it makes the waves bigger and more powerful. In summer, there are small waves, some choppy water, and calm seas, while in fall and winter, thanks to the Poniente wind, there are good waves.

Learning to Wingfoil in Tarifa is tough but possible if you're up for the challenge. Beginner courses depend on wind conditions and aren't always guaranteed.

For experienced Wingfoilers, Tarifa is amazing. The main Wingfoil school is at Valdevaqueros, around 10 minutes from the old town, on a beautiful sandy beach. It's the windiest spot in the area, close to a large sand dune and surrounded by lush vegetation. Kitesurfing, windsurfing, and wingfoiling are taught easily here because the bay's shape makes it safe. It's also safe during Levante days because if you have trouble getting back to shore, you'll drift towards the dune. There's a free rescue boat available if needed. Sometimes in winter, there's a shorebreak when the Poniente wind blows.

About 60 km from Tarifa, Los Caños de Meca offers great surfing conditions, mainly in spring and summer. The Wingfoil school can organize transfers there when conditions are right and can bring rented equipment.
